Abstract

The use of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS), both in competitive sport and in fitness, is currently considered a major public health problem. In the pursuit of the perfect body, gain of lean mass, loss of fat mass and/or increased performance, many individuals make illicit and widespread use of AAS, regardless of sex, age and cultural and social condition. The side effects of these drugs can be severe, multiple and unpredictable. This article reviews the epidemiology and the clinical and social implications of the use of AAS and presents the #BombaTôFora program, created with the aim of education, prevention, interdisciplinary care and rehabilitation of AAS users.
