Home-Based Cardiac Rehabilitation Program During COVID-19 Pandemic
Abstract
Introduction:
The social isolation due to the pandemic of the new coronavirus (COVID-19), made the face to face cardiovascular rehabilitation program (CR) in hospitals or clinics unfeasible.
Objective:
Due to this new scenario, on an emergency basis, it was adopted the model of the home-based cardiac rehabilitation (HBCR) program, in order to keep the patients physically active.
Methods:
Sending videos and text messages by phone with instructions about the physical exercises to be performed. Subsequently, a questionnaire with feedback on joining the program was carried out.
Results:
Of the 107 patients treated at the time of its interruption, 101 (94%) received the recommendations. Of these, 72 (71%) reported having performed at least one session of the video exercises, with an average of 20 sessions per patient. Regarding the communication strategy with the CR team, 95% considered it good; 98% said they understood the information sent and 99% positively evaluated the quality of the videos, audios and text messages.
Conclusion:
With the adoption of HBCR, it was possible to guide and monitor the majority of patients seen in the program, encouraging them to perform exercises at home in a safe manner, which can contribute positively to their health.
