Abstract

Cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) can be used in athletes or exercisers recovered from COVID-19 to differentiate symptoms generated by physical deconditioning from those resulting from residual cardiopulmonary injuries, which is clinically relevant, especially in the return to sports after the viral infection. However, the pattern of CPET response after recovery from COVID-19 is uncertain. In this context, we reported the cases of two exercisers with COVID-19 and abnormal pulmonary tomography, who presented opposite functional recoveries, presenting different behaviors in relation to the responses to the CPET. Even with similar previous clinical characteristics, while detraining was the limiting factor in case 1, in case 2, the limitation was pulmonary.
